Active IQ Level 3 Award in Designing Exercise Programmes for Disabled Clients

How inclusive are you?

Are you ready to move in a new direction in health-related exercise and activity, promoting inclusion, accessibility and positive change in the field of disability and exercise, and being fully compliant with the Equality Act?

Disability is an integral feature of society, not a specialist field

Between 18% and 21% of the UK population has a disability, and over two-thirds of these adults are physically inactive (compared with only 21% of non-disabled adults), often through a lack of opportunity rather than laziness.

This is your opportunity to change that and access a client group who want to get fitter and improve their health, but who struggle to find appropriately qualified fitness professionals to help them.

Why choose this course?

By choosing this course, you get a recognised qualification, and you also benefit from the experience and knowledge of the tutors and guests. The course is delivered live so you can ask questions, interact with the tutors and other learners and get the learning support you need.

This is not just another fitness course, it is your gateway to transforming lives and improving health and well-being. Over three days, we guide you through disability-related activity and exercise in a non-judgmental and thought-provoking way, while building your confidence and skills to support disabled adults in becoming - and staying - more active.

You will learn about the conditions listed below and gain the tools to provide safe and effective activity and exercise for adults, boosting your career in a field where you can truly make a difference.

  • Cerebral Palsy (CP)
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Limbless/amputation
  • Visual impairment
  • Hearing impairment
  • Down's syndrome
  • Learning disability
  • Neurodivergence (not technically a disability, but there are potential issues that prevent people with neurodivergent conditions from sticking to a fitness programme)

You will discuss models of disability, barriers to activity, and support needs of disabled people, including facility access, staff and customer awareness and understanding of disability, and the practical implications of the disability. We also cover the common comorbidities and implications for exercise.

The tutor team

Sam James is a highly qualified PT, and group exercise instructor and holds the Level 4 Neurological Conditions qualification. As someone with Cerebral Palsy, she provides unique insights into the challenges faced by people with disabilities who aspire to be active.

Grab this chance to make a difference. The world needs more qualified professionals like you to break down barriers and promote accessibility and inclusivity. This is your opportunity to transform your career and positively impact the lives of those often overlooked.
